My family history is entwined with textiles; weavers, sheep farmers and even a court dressmaker in the mix. I have fibres in my bloodstream. Originally from Derbyshire, I have lived in North Devon for over 15 years.
My embroideries are in silk appliqué embellished with machine stitching & hand beading, all are inspired by drawing or a painting. I love the variety of texture and rich jewel like colour in pure silk.
My current work developed following a visit to the RAMM museum in Exeter, where the butterfly room fascinated me. I began to draw these creatures and this soon led to the creation of textiles pieces to be worn or hung.
My pieces are made in small batches to the highest standards of craftsmanship. I currently combine creating my own work with making and designing Masonic and ecclesiastical banners. See them here.
I also work, occasionally, as a tutor and lecturer in embroidery for the Embroiderer’s Guild and other textile groups. I am more than happy to give talks about my practice.
